Butterfly PeacockCoffee Bean Intro:

Region: Panama  Boquete

Altitude: 1600-1650

In the Boquete region, there are also many outstanding estates. In addition to the famous Hacienda La Esmeralda, estates such as Elida Estate and Caturra Duncan Estate are also renowned, all producing high-quality specialty coffee. This is not only due to the superior ecological conditions of the Boquete area in Panama and the fertile volcanic ash soil of the Barú volcano.

The Butterfly Peacock has 70% of the excellent genetic lineage of Geisha, composed of Geisha g eisha, Caturra, and Catuai Catuai、three varieties, planted in the Barú volcanic area of Boquete, growing at an altitude of 1600 meters in the volcanic region. The processing facility uses meticulous washed processing. The unique microclimate of the Panama region leads to abundant rainfall in this area, along with significant day-night temperature variations. Coupled with the unique volcanic rock soil of the volcanic region, as well as careful harvesting and refined processing, this coffee performs exceptionally well in terms of body, acidity, and floral aroma.

What’s even more surprising is that, on top of its very high quality, the very affordable price makes this coffee bean’s cost-performance ratio off the charts. The special feature of this coffee bean is the presence of the Geisha variety, giving it a distinctly Geisha flavor profile.

Is Butterfly Peacock a blend?

According to the information obtained from research, due to the historical reasons of the estate, in the early days, in pursuit of yield, the early Geisha variety was mixed and planted together with the Caturra and Catuai varieties. To facilitate harvesting, the coffee farmers did not reclassify but directly processed the three varieties together.

No, the three varieties in Butterfly Peacock are from the same origin and same region, so it is considered a single-origin coffee bean.

The special feature of Geisha is that it has very distinct and clear floral and citrus flavor notes, extremely high cleanliness, soft and elegant acidity, persistent and silky sweetness, and the mouthfeel of premium black tea. It offers floral aromas and the intense sweetness of tropical fruits, resulting in a unique fruity-floral character.

Caturra and Catuai are relatively common varieties among American beans, especially in Central America.

Caturra

Caturra is a variant of Bourbon, discovered in Brazil in 1937. Its yield and disease resistance are both better than Bourbon, and the trees are shorter, making harvesting easier. It has strong adaptability and does not require shade trees; it can thrive even under direct sunlight, commonly referred to as sun coffee. Caturra is suitable for cultivation from low altitudes of 700 meters up to high altitudes of 1700 meters. It has strong altitude adaptability, but the higher the altitude, the better the flavor profile, with a relative reduction in yield — the destiny of specialty beans.

Catuai

Catuai is also an Arabica hybrid variety, a cross between Mundo Novo (New World) and Caturra. It has relatively good resistance to natural disasters, especially wind and rain. It inherits the advantage of Caturra’s short tree height and improves upon the weakness of Mundo Novo. Another advantage is its firm fruit set, which does not easily fall off in strong winds, compensating for the frailty of Arabica fruits.

Flavor Notes:The acidity is delicate and smooth, with sweetness emerging quickly on the tongue and lingering. The mouthfeel is clean and bright, like black tea. Aromas of rose, honeysuckle, sweet potato, grapefruit, lemon, black tea, and cane sugar unfold in clear layers, with a long finish.
