Batian — Released in Kenya in 2010 by the Coffee Research Foundation, now KALRO, after selection work at the Ruiru station. A composite drawing on SL28, SL34, Rume Sudan, N39, K7, SL4 and the Timor Hybrid, it pairs leaf rust and berry disease resistance with high yields - and unusually for a resistant variety it is tall and copes well with low-input management.
Citrus and blackcurrant brightness over firm mid-palate sweetness in a clean cup; the higher it is grown, the more definition it shows.
Pour-over at 90-92 °C, 1:15, medium-fine grind, staged pours, to keep clarity and sweetness forward.
