Geisha has long been a sought-after coffee variety, and according to the World Coffee Research, the Geisha variety was first discovered in the forests of Ethiopia in the 1930s. It was later sent to research institutions in several countries, and only reached Panama in the 1960s.

It was not until Hacienda La Esmeralda discovered it and entered it in the BOP competition that Geisha coffee became a global sensation. Before Geisha arrived, however, Panama, like other Central American countries, mainly grew Caturra and Catuai varieties. Hacienda La Esmeralda was no exception, having long grown the Catuai variety and sold it under the Diamond Mountain brand.

Today, Hacienda La Esmeralda owns 3 coffee farms: Jaramillo, Canas Verdes and El Velo. On these farms, in addition to growing Geisha and Catuai, many different experimental varieties are also grown, such as SL34, Pacamara and Laurina, and for this reason the Varietals collection brand was launched in recent years.

Geisha varieties are mainly divided into Esmeralda Auction, Esmeralda Special and Private Collection. Among these, Esmeralda Special and Private Collection are commonly known as Red Label and Green Label. In addition, this year Hacienda La Esmeralda also introduced a "Black Label" lot, selecting some of the experimental lots, special processing methods or lots grown at extremely high altitudes from among the Red Label, with black as its label color.

The Catuai variety is sold under the Diamond Mountain name, and the name Diamond Mountain symbolizes its high quality and unique flavor, just like a precious diamond. The Catuai used is grown on the Jaramillo and Canas Verdes farms at altitudes of 1400-1600 m, and is mainly processed by washed and natural methods.

Catuai is a variety developed by the Instituto Agronomico de Campinas (IAC) in Brazil, and is a cross between Mundo Novo and Caturra. Its name comes from the Guarani words multo mom, meaning "very good".

Compared with Bourbon, Catuai has a relatively shorter tree shape overall and its fruit grows close together, allowing for dense planting, high yields, and adaptation to higher-altitude cultivation, and with excellent quality it is very popular, so many estates in Panama grow the Catuai variety.

Moreover, all the plantations of Hacienda La Esmeralda are located in the Boquete production area of Panama, which is Panama's main coffee-producing region, located in Chiriqui Province in the west of the country, near the famous Volcan Baru. Thanks to the fertile volcanic soil here and the unique, changeable local microclimate, coffee and other plants can grow very well here.

Although it cannot match Geisha in variety, it is likewise shaped by the unique environment of the Boquete production area and the high-quality management of Hacienda La Esmeralda, and its quality is also excellent, with a high cost-performance ratio. Qianjie's Hacienda La Esmeralda Diamond Mountain uses traditional sun-dried processing; after brewing, you will smell a slight fermented note brought by the sun-dried processing, and on the palate there will be bright acidity, with citrus, nut and honey flavors, a smooth mouthfeel, and finally a cocoa finish.
