Later, on the evening of April 10, the Ibu (Halmahera Barat) volcano on Halmahera Island (Pulau Halmahera) erupted, with an ash column reaching up to 800 meters and the eruption lasting 78 seconds. Then, in the early hours of April 11, Mount Marapi (Gunung Sorikmarapi) on Sumatra Island also erupted in succession. After a few days of calm, on the 16th, an earthquake near the islands in North Sulawesi Province caused the Ruang volcano to erupt more than three times in a row. Then at noon on the 17th, the previously erupted Ibu (Halmahera Barat) volcano erupted again, with an ash column reaching up to 2,500 meters.

Currently, local authorities have evacuated residents in areas near the volcanoes. Many residents can only stay with relatives or in government-designated shelters. Airports near the volcanoes have been temporarily closed, and several airlines have canceled flights to and from Indonesia. In addition, as more eruptions are expected, any activity within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano craters has been prohibited, and authorities have warned of potential landslides into the sea, which could trigger the ejection of incandescent rocks, pyroclastic clouds, and tsunamis. The alert level has been raised to the highest.

In addition, harmful gases released by volcanic eruptions, such as sulfur dioxide, can directly affect crop growth and may also lead to acid rain, which further harms crops. Moreover, when large amounts of volcanic ash and aerosol particles enter the atmosphere, they can alter cloud distribution and reflectivity, thereby affecting global and regional climates, resulting in droughts or heavy rainfall.

According to local coffee producers, the current harvest season for Robusta is underway. However, due to weather conditions and the impact of the volcanic disaster, it is expected that coffee production on some islands will decrease by 20%50%
