In Asia, there are many coffee-producing countries, such as Laos, Indonesia, Timor-Leste, Thailand, China, and Myanmar.

Myanmar (Myanmar)

Myanmar is a country with both land and sea territories, boasting a coastline of 3,200 kilometers. Its terrain is higher in the north and lower in the south, surrounded by mountain ranges to the north, west, and east. The northern part consists of high mountainous areas, the western region features the Naga Hills and the Arakan Mountains, while the eastern part is home to the Shan Plateau. Hkakabo Razi, near the border with China, stands at an elevation of 5,881 meters, making it the highest peak in the country. Between the western mountains and the eastern plateau lies the Irrawaddy River alluvial plain, which has low and flat terrain.

Most of the coffee produced in Shan State is grown by smallholder farmers, with the majority cultivating less than one hectare. Approximately 80% of the coffee grown is Arabica for export, while 20% is Robusta, mostly for local consumption. Common varieties include Caturra, Catimor, Bourbon, Typica, S795, and SL34. The harvested cherries are picked, sorted, and then sent to processing stations for production.

Coffee cultivation in Myanmar is primarily concentrated in the Naung Cho, Ye Yang, Hopong, and Pyin Oo Lwin areas of Shan State, as well as in Mandalay State. In addition, coffee is now also being grown in Chin State, Bago Region, Taungdwingyi, and Hopong.

Shan State: A state located in northern Myanmar, bordering Xishuangbanna in Yunnan, China. It is the largest and most populous state in Myanmar. The region is mostly surrounded by the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and is home to the Salween River, one of the longest rivers in Asia. Coffee is grown at elevations between 800 and 1800 meters.
