Huakui coffee

Ethiopia Huakui and Panama Geisha are the two most discussed names in the specialty coffee world. Many friends who have just gotten into coffee ask: what exactly is the difference between them? The price differs by several times, is it worth it? This article explains it clearly from three angles: flavor, origin and suitable drinking occasions.

Huakui: The Juice-Bomb Star

Qianjie Ethiopia Huakui comes from the Guji region of Ethiopia and is sun-dried. Its biggest characteristic is a very prominent tropical fruit aroma - strawberry, passion fruit, jackfruit and even lychee aromas can all be found in the cup, with obvious sweetness and low bitterness, smooth on the palate with a juicy mouthfeel. Many consumers describe it as "the coffee that tastes least like coffee." For people who do not like the bitterness of traditional coffee, Huakui can often change their impression of coffee.

Geisha: The Representative of Floral Aroma and Tea-Like Character

The Geisha variety is known for its jasmine floral aroma, citrus notes and black-tea-like tea character, and Hacienda La Esmeralda in the Boquete region of Panama pushed Geisha onto the auction stage. Qianjie has also brought in Geisha beans from the Panama region, and from bean variety to cup flavor they embody the signature style of this variety: long-lasting aroma, clear and transparent acidity, and delicate layers.

Three Key Differences

Different origins: Huakui is a masterpiece of a native Ethiopian variety on the terroir of Guji; Geisha originated in Ethiopia's Kaffa forest and went on to flourish in Central and South America, carrying "noble" blood in its bones.

Different flavor routes: Huakui is bold and direct, with juice character rushing at you; Geisha is restrained and elegant, with floral aroma and tea character unfolding layer by layer. One is like freshly squeezed juice, the other like a fine tea drink.

Different price positioning: Huakui is a hundred-yuan-level everyday specialty coffee; auction-grade Geisha can reach sky-high prices, and Geisha for daily drinking is generally also at a higher price point.

How to Choose

If your budget is limited and you like straightforward fruit aroma, Huakui's value for money is hard to beat; if you want to experience the layers and elegance of a variety's flavor, or to entertain friends on an important occasion, Geisha is worth opening a bag of. The approach of seasoned drinkers is to keep both on hand: drink Huakui daily, and slow down on the weekend to brew a cup of Geisha - the two pleasures do not get in each other's way.
