Recently, the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) released its March coffee export report. Although the data looks promising, the future remains challenging.

In addition, Colombia's coffee exports in March amounted to 1 million bags of 60 kg each, which is a 10.9% increase compared to the same period last year, but a 3.8% decrease compared to February. Moreover, the total value of coffee exports in March was $281 million, a 4.5% increase from March 2023. The growth in revenue was primarily driven by rising global coffee prices.

However, in the first few months of this year, production rebounded somewhat, but abnormal climate changes once again affected Colombia, leading to a decline in output. Earlier, Colombia experienced drought, with the average water level in many reservoirs across the country falling to less than 30% of normal, prompting water restrictions in many areas.

Additionally, government issues have significantly impacted the country's coffee industry. Earlier, a major conference of large-scale coffee producers was held in Colombia, during which Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated that the state must take over the National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC) to protect and properly utilize public resources. Government intervention would industrialize the coffee sector, enabling the export of better-quality products.

However, the government has yet to take any action. As a result, the Coffee Growers Committees from all 15 coffee-producing departments across the country issued a statement saying that Colombia’s coffee cultivation is going through a difficult period and requires unity to face the challenges.

Now is not the time to encourage division or the splitting of institutions, so instead of calling on the national government to encourage the fragmentation of coffee growers, it would be better to provide the necessary assistance to the unions of the National Federation of Coffee Growers (⟦U12⟧FNC⟧U12⟧) over the next 100 years.
