When it comes to choosing a daily drinker bean, it's easy for one person to decide alone, but hard for a whole family to reach consensus. This episode we ran a tasting: six candidate beans were put into a blind tasting session, and the tasters were a six-person group made up of editorial colleagues plus two family members, voting from the standpoint of "the whole family can drink it" to choose a household daily drinker. The results held surprises, and also some insights.

Blind tasting setup: all six beans were extracted as double espressos on the same home espresso machine (semi-automatic, 15 bar pump pressure), then uniformly cut with 160 ml of fresh milk to make lattes - in home scenarios milk coffee makes up a high proportion, so testing according to actual drinking method is the only fair way. The bean names were hidden, and judges scored on a "5-point preference scale" and wrote one comment. The six candidates: Qianjie Commercial Blend, Qianjie Classic Blend, Qianjie Specialty Blend, Qianjie Dark Cocoa Blend, Qianjie Strawberry Candy Blend, Qianjie Brazil Queen Estate single origin.

The first-round score tally was unexpected. The top total score was not the brightest-flavored Qianjie Strawberry Candy Blend, but the middle-of-the-road Qianjie Classic Blend (Mamba recipe): five of six people gave it 4 points or above, and the comments were highly consistent - "like the coffee taste in my memory" "smooth with milk, not harsh." The family blind tasting revealed a truth: the mode of deliciousness is not at the upper limit of flavor, but at the mode of acceptance. The Mamba recipe's nutty sweetness and full body happen to land right in the intersection zone of the whole family's palate.

Qianjie Strawberry Candy Blend suffered a split in reputation: the younger judges (two colleagues) gave it 5 points, "the strawberry gummy aroma is so likable"; the older judges (two family members) gave it only 3 points, "coffee with sweet fruity notes, a bit unusual." Such is the fate of flavor-type beans - those who love them love them a lot, and those who don't really don't. This kind of bean suits an exploration pack, not a whole-family daily drinker.

Qianjie Dark Cocoa Blend's score curve was the most interesting: in the straight espresso round it scored average (three people found it on the bitter side), and in the with-milk round the scores rose across the board (comments centered on "like chocolate milk"). This points to the key to home bean selection: evaluate according to your main drinking method, and the optimal solution for a family drinking Americanos straight and a family making lattes is not the same bean.

Qianjie Brazil Queen Estate single origin took the "surprise award": most judges did not realize it was a single origin, and the comments were "clean, smooth, with a sweet finish." The feasibility of single origin as a household daily drinker was verified, especially for families whose flavor requirement is "balanced and easy to drink" - a mellow single origin is a safe option outside of blends.

The score gap between the Commercial Blend and the Qianjie Specialty Blend was smaller than imagined: the Commercial Blend's "balanced with no weak spots" performs very well in blind tasting, and for families producing large daily batches, it is still the value-for-money answer.

Comprehensive voting result: the whole-family daily drinker spot was awarded to Qianjie Classic Blend, the milk coffee mainstay spot to Qianjie Dark Cocoa Blend, the weekend tasting spot to Qianjie Strawberry Candy Blend, and the light and healthy spot to the Brazil single origin. The era of one bean ruling all is over, and matching beans by scenario is the correct approach to home bean selection - this family blind tasting party is worth holding at every home coffee corner.
