Geisha's exceptional fame comes not only from its outstanding genetics, but even more from Hacienda La Esmeralda's unique vision in Panama, which uncovered the potential of the Geisha variety and shot to fame by competing in the Best of Panama (BOP) competition. Afterwards, the Geisha produced by Hacienda La Esmeralda has always drawn close attention from coffee lovers, and people often hear of "Red Label", "Green Label" or "Geisha 1500", but in the past two years "Geisha 1500" is rarely heard of anymore. So what exactly is this vanished "Geisha 1500"?

Hacienda La Esmeralda has 4 coffee-growing farms under its umbrella, among which Jaramillo, Cañas Verdes and El Velo all grow the Geisha variety, and each growing farm is further divided into different small plots. There is also Palmira farm at the lowest altitude, which mainly grows Catuai; the entire estate's growing area is about 30 hectares, and this is also Hacienda La Esmeralda's internal office area, as well as the processing plant where all green beans are handled.

For the coffee it grows, Hacienda La Esmeralda uses a proprietary and relatively mature grading system, and launches corresponding brands. At present, what is sold at FrontStreet Coffee includes Red Label Geisha, Green Label Geisha and Diamond Mountain.

Red Label Geisha (Esmeralda Special), also called Esmeralda Special, is a Geisha carefully selected by Hacienda La Esmeralda, which must score above 91 points in cupping. Red Label Geisha mainly comes from plots at 1600-1800 m altitude at Cañas Verdes and Jaramillo farms. Since each farm is independently divided into several different small plots, but Geisha grown in different plots will have subtle differences in flavor, each lot of Red Label Geisha comes from a single independent plot and has very detailed traceability information.

In addition, Hacienda La Esmeralda's auction lot (Esmeralda Auction) is a lot carefully selected from the Red Label, sold to buyers worldwide through auction bidding. And this year, Hacienda La Esmeralda also launched a "Black Label" lot, which consists of some experimental lots, special processing methods or lots grown in extremely high-altitude plots among the Red Label, priced somewhat higher than Red Label, with black as its standard color.

Green Label Geisha (Private Collection), also called Private Collection, likewise comes from Esmeralda's three sub-farms, with the same growing altitude of 1600-1800 m, but Green Label Geisha is a blended harvest from plots of the three farms, and can only be traced back to the farm, not to a specific small plot like Red Label.

Besides Red Label and Green Label, there was once another one, "Geisha 1500", whose label is blue, so people called it Blue Label Geisha; it was relatively cheaper, and many also called it Hacienda La Esmeralda's most cost-effective Geisha. Specifically, Blue Label is a blended Geisha from the three sub-farms grown below 1500 m altitude, hence the name Geisha 1500.FrontStreet noted that Blue Label Geisha is only washed processed, with a flavor of light floral notes, fruity sweet-tartness, and the classic Panamanian Geisha character, though its mouthfeel is not as solid as Red Label Geisha and Green Label Geisha.

However, starting from the 2021 production season, Hacienda La Esmeralda officially announced it would no longer launch the Blue Label series. We also saw on Hacienda La Esmeralda's official website that the product introduction has already deleted Blue Label, leaving only Red Label and Green Label among the Geisha lines, and afterwards fewer and fewer people mentioned Blue Label or Geisha 1500.

Esmeralda's El Velo sub-farm, for commercial viability, besides growing the Geisha variety, also grows many different coffee varieties, including SL34, Pacamara, Laurina and others; for this Hacienda La Esmeralda also launched the Varietals collection brand.

In addition, there is another traditional brand, Diamond Mountain, mainly from Jaramillo and Cañas Verdes among Hacienda La Esmeralda's 4 sub-farms, growing the Catuai variety at 1400-1600 m altitude.
