Panamanian coffee enjoys a very high profile in the global coffee market. In addition to being home to the renowned Geisha variety, this is also due to the Panamanian Specialty Coffee Association (SCAP), which designed and organized the BOP (Best of Panama, also known as Best Panama).

Since launching the first Best of Panama (BOP) competition in 1996, Panamanian producers have each year presented high-quality coffees that have gone on to fetch high prices at subsequent auctions, allowing them to engage more with the international community and gain recognition. By 2005, Geisha stood out with its exceptional flavor and scores, and since then, the Geisha variety has become world-famous.

In this edition’s Varietal Category, the champion with a score of 94.1 was the Chiroso variety from Black Moon Farm.
Boquete is arguably the most famous coffee-growing region in Panama, home to renowned estates such as Hacienda La Esmeralda, Finca Duncan, and Finca Elida.
Later, the estate was taken over by Hunter Tedman, the current president of the Panama Specialty Coffee Association (SCAP), who was responsible for its management. Hunter aimed to transform the estate into a coffee plantation and reshape its ecological environment through bio-friendly methods.
Although it has only been cultivating coffee for a short time and is considered a newly established coffee farm, it quickly made a name for itself in the BOP. The first harvest of Geisha in 2022 was entered into the BOP competition, where it won 9th place in the Natural Geisha category and 11th place in the Washed Geisha category.
