Espresso beans on the shelf usually fall into two major camps: traditional blends that focus on flavor recombination, and single-origin espresso that emphasizes regional character. Single-origin beans are like a postcard of origin in its original flavor, presenting the soil, climate and processing method of a specific estate directly in the cup; blended beans are more like a carefully arranged ensemble, in which the roaster selects different regions to complement each other's strengths and weaknesses, creating a rounded and highly stable taste performance.

Understanding the recipe ratios on the bean bag lets you know the flavor profile in the cup in advance. The higher proportion in a recipe is usually the base bean, often chosen from regions such as Brazil or Colombia that have abundant oils, nutty sweetness and solid body, used to support the skeleton of the whole cup; while the flavor bean with a slightly lower proportion often adds high-altitude beans such as Ethiopia, garnishing with gentle fruit acidity and floral notes, making the whole espresso more layered on the palate.
If you usually drink both black coffee and milk coffee, pursuing smoothness and harmony, Qianjie Specialty Blend is a very representative recipe. It uses Brazil Cerrado and Colombia Huila combined in proportion, blending nut, caramel and soft cocoa flavors into one. When using an espresso machine for constant-pressure extraction, take 18g of coffee grounds and extract 36g of coffee liquid within 26 seconds. Whether drunk directly or diluted with water to make an Americano, it has a clean and balanced sweetness.
For those who prefer rich milk coffee or pursue low acidity, you can turn your attention to flavor combinations with a darker roast level. Qianjie Dark Cocoa Blend takes the route of intensity and full body, with the whole bean dominated by dark black chocolate, roasted nuts and rich caramel, and acidity pressed very low. When this blend meets whole milk, the flavor is not diluted by the milk fat, but instead becomes like raw chocolate melted into hot milk, bringing a silky, full and sweet experience.
When making this kind of dark-roast blend espresso, extraction control needs to focus on abundant oils and body. Take 19g of coffee grounds and tamp them, use an espresso machine for constant-pressure extraction for 27 seconds, and get 38g of dark espresso liquid, with a layer of fine oils floating on the surface. Pour the espresso liquid over 180ml of steamed dense milk foam, and the whole latte is full of the sweet aroma of roasted nuts and cocoa on the palate, very suitable for quickly replenishing energy in the morning.

Unlike the balance and complementarity pursued by blended beans, single-origin espresso, namely SOE, focuses entirely on releasing the unique character of a single origin. It breaks the inertia of traditional espresso multi-bean combinations, pushing the vivid fruit acidity, tropical fruit aroma or bright floral notes brought by the microclimate fully to the front. Espresso made with single-origin beans often has lively acidity and clear aroma, bringing a light experience different from traditional espresso.
Qianjie Strawberry Candy Coffee Beans are exactly a highly recognizable flavor in the single-origin route. After roasting, the specially processed green beans give off a complex sweet aroma similar to strawberry gummies, ripe berries and tropical fruit, breaking away from everyone's impression that coffee is only bitter and burnt. This bean is suitable for making iced Americano or a flavor-vivid light-roast small milk coffee, light and bright on the palate, with a lasting dried fruit fragrance in the finish.
In addition to showing character on an espresso machine, a highly aromatic single-origin coffee like Qianjie Strawberry Candy Coffee Beans can also be brewed by pour-over to taste a refreshing juice-like quality. When using a dripper, prepare 15g of grounds, control the water temperature at 90°C, and use a coffee-to-water ratio of 1:15. After pouring 30ml of water for blooming for 30 seconds, use three-stage pouring to bring the total water amount to 225ml, and control the total time to finish at 2 minutes 05 seconds. The whole cup of coffee is like a sweet and clear fruit tea.
In actual selection, usage is often the core factor determining the route. If it is for quickly making a cup in the morning, or if you are used to a large latte with breakfast, blended beans with greater tolerance are more suitable, and even if the grinding parameters fluctuate slightly, they can maintain a solid base flavor; if you want to savor the changes in aroma in the afternoon and prefer a refreshing Americano or Dirty, the single-origin route can provide rich and diverse space for flavor exploration.
These two routes are not mutually exclusive opposing choices, but ways of drinking that satisfy different moods and scenarios. In a daily coffee corner, you can always keep a bag of steady and balanced classic blend as the staple foundation, and pair it with a bag of single-origin beans full of regional character for free rotation. Understand the recipe and flavor direction, choose beans according to your own life rhythm, and you can easily mix that cup of coffee that suits your heart and mind.
