Panama

In the southernmost part of Central America lies a country with a unique geographical location, home to a canal known as the “Bridge of the World”—the Republic of Panama. The country covers a total area of 75,517 square kilometers and is divided into 10 provinces and 5 indigenous regions.

Panama is bordered by Colombia to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the south, Costa Rica to the west, and the Caribbean Sea to the north. Its S-shaped territory connects North and South America, and the Panama Canal runs from north to south, linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, earning it the title of "Bridge of the World".

Coffee Regions

The main coffee-growing regions are Boquete, Volcan-Candela, and Renacimiento. These regions are all located in the western part of the country and are surrounded by three volcanoes: Volcán Barú, El Valle, and La Yeguada.

Boquete: Boquete is arguably the most well-known coffee-growing region in Panama, home to many renowned estates such as Hacienda La Esmeralda, Finca Duncan, and Finca Elida. The main Boquete region offers excellent conditions for coffee cultivation, with farms located at elevations between 1,200 and 2,000 meters. The temperature here ranges between 11°C and 27°C — not too cold or too hot — while the significant diurnal temperature variation allows coffee cherries to develop slowly and build complex flavors. In addition, there is adequate rainfall, fertile volcanic soil, abundant sunshine, and the area’s unique microclimate, all of which contribute to the production of high-quality coffee in this region.

Renacimiento: This region is located in one of the most remote parts of the country, bordering Costa Rica, with cultivation elevations ranging from 1100 to 1500 meters. Due to its isolated location and limited accessibility, as well as the reduced processing and transportation infrastructure resulting from its remoteness, Renacimiento is not as well-known as the Boquete and Volcán regions.
