Recently, Honduras has been affected by severe weather, and the Honduran Coffee Institute (IHCAFE) is concerned about future coffee production.According to data recently released by the Honduran Institute of Forest Conservation (ICF), there have been 1,903 forest fires across Honduras this year, engulfing over 150,000 hectares of forest and severely impacting the country’s agriculture.

Additionally, the severely wildfire-affected Olancho and Francisco Morazán provinces are both coffee-growing regions in Honduras. Fortunately, these are not the main coffee-producing areas, with relatively low output, so the direct impact of the wildfires on the coffee industry is minimal.
In addition, although forest fires have no direct impact on coffee growth, they do have many potential effects. After a wildfire, the soil can be damaged and eroded, leading to reduced soil fertility and lower agricultural yields. Moreover, forest fires damage the forest ecological environment, and recovery of the ecological environment takes a long time.
It is reported that Hurricane Mitch brought severe disasters to Honduras, causing over 5,000 deaths, destroying countless bridges, houses, road infrastructure, and crops, and resulting in economic losses as high as $4 billion.
