Panamanian coffee enjoys a very high profile in the global coffee market. This is not only due to the renowned Geisha variety, but also to the Panamanian Specialty Coffee Association (SCAP), which designed and organized the BOP (Best of Panama, also known as the Best of Panama).
The ability to grow high-quality coffee is inseparable from Panama’s unique geographical environment. Panama is located in the southernmost part of Central America, near the equator. The country features undulating terrain and numerous valleys, with most areas being mountainous except for the coastal plains. It also boasts abundant forests, river resources, and multiple volcanoes.
The country has a tropical maritime climate, with humid days and cool nights. The annual average temperature ranges between 23°C and 27°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1,500–2,500 mm. Influenced by the geographical environment, Panama also features complex and varied microclimates, all of which provide ideal growing conditions for coffee trees.

Coffee Regions
The Boquete region boasts excellent conditions for coffee cultivation, with plantations located at elevations between 1,200 and 2,000 meters. The temperature here ranges from 11°C to 27°C — neither too cold nor too hot — and the significant diurnal temperature variation allows coffee cherries to develop slowly and build complex flavors. With moderate rainfall, fertile volcanic soil, ample sunshine, and the area’s unique microclimate, this region is capable of producing high-quality coffee.
