Africa is a vast plateau continent, known as the "plateau continent," with an average elevation of 750 m. Africa has numerous mountain ranges, volcanoes, lakes and rivers. Because it straddles the equator, it is mainly tropical, with an annual average temperature above 20°C. Africa is rich in natural resources and has developed agriculture, and many countries are famous for producing coffee, such as Ethiopia, Kenya and Tanzania. Kenyan coffee is known for its multi-layered flavors and juicy acidity, and is loved by many coffee industry professionals.

Although Kenya borders Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee, Kenya's coffee industry started relatively late. It was first brought to Kenya by French missionaries in the 19th century. At that time Kenya was a British colony, and the British controlled local agriculture, including coffee cultivation, while local people could only serve as cheap labor. However, when the British saw the profits brought by coffee cultivation locally, they vigorously developed the coffee industry, and by the end of the 19th century Kenya already had nearly 50 coffee plantations.
By the 20th century, civil unrest began between the colonial government and Kenya's indigenous inhabitants. Through land reform, Kenyans were for the first time allowed to grow their own coffee, and European landowners' property was stripped away. The distribution plan at that time formed the smallholder model. The government then vigorously developed the coffee industry, first establishing an auction system in 1934 to increase coffee income, and later drafting a coffee quality grading system to improve cultivation quality. By the 1950s, an agricultural bill was also passed, giving farmers land-use rights, enabling farmers to become self-sufficient and increase their income.

Of course, producing high-quality coffee beans would not be possible without Kenya's climate and environment. Kenya is located in eastern Africa, with the equator crossing through its center and the East African Rift running north to south. Most of the country is a plateau with an average altitude of 1500m. The eastern branch of the East African Rift cuts north to south through the plateau, dividing the highlands into eastern and western parts. Many volcanoes also stand within the country, among them the extinct volcano Mount Kenya in the central highlands, which reaches 5199m and is the second-highest peak in Africa.
Kenya lies in the tropical monsoon zone. Most areas have a tropical savanna climate, while the coastal areas are hotter and more humid, and the plateau climate is milder. The rainy seasons are from March to June and from October to December each year, and temperatures range from 12-24°C throughout the year. Kenya is rich in natural resources. High-altitude mountains, volcanic soil, abundant sunshine and appropriate rainfall have made both agriculture and tourism in the country relatively developed.

Coffee is basically grown in the central and western parts of Kenya. In the central region there are well-known producing areas such as Nyeri, Kiambu and Kirinyaga. These coffee-producing areas all surround the extinct volcano Mount Kenya, and thanks to fertile volcanic soil, suitable sunlight and rainfall, they cultivate Kenya's finest coffee. The country's best-known producing area is Nyeri.
Nyeri is located in central Kenya, where the extinct volcano Mount Kenya stands. The area is surrounded by Mount Kenya and Mount Aberdare, lying among a ring of mountains, and the eastern end of the East African Rift runs through it from there. Meltwater from the snowy mountains brings it a pure, cool water source. Coffee is grown on hillsides at 1200-2300m. High-altitude mountains, fertile soil developed from volcanic rock and abundant glacier water resources allow high-quality coffee beans to be produced here and make it one of Kenya's important coffee-producing areas.
