Recently, the United States Department of Agriculture released its Coffee World Markets and Trade report, which states that global coffee production in 2024/25 is expected to rebound by 7.1 million bags compared to the previous year, reaching 176.2 million bags.
Although Brazil has been affected by weather fluctuations in the first half of 2024, with some areas experiencing high temperatures and reduced rainfall while others faced heavy rain, the impact has been minimal. This is partly because some Brazilian states have relatively advanced technology, which allows them to mitigate drought effects through irrigation. Moreover, Brazil has continuously expanded its coffee-growing area in recent years, leading to increased production.
However, earlier this year the impact of the El Niño phenomenon began to gradually weaken, and in recent months Colombian coffee production has seen a slight rebound. Therefore, the report indicates that Colombian coffee production will reach 12.4 million bags. But with reports suggesting an increasing trend in the local coffee borer pest infestation rate, 12.4 million bags will be the recent peak in production, and under current conditions it is difficult for Colombian coffee to reach the highs of the 2011–2013 period. Exports have also risen to 10.8 million bags due to increased supply.
Among other Central American countries, only Mexico saw an increase in coffee production by 30,000 bags to 3.9 million bags, and Nicaragua is expected to see an increase of 300,000 bags to 2.7 million bags. Meanwhile, production in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama remained largely flat compared to previous levels, so exports from the region will rise to 13.4 million bags.

There is positive news from Indonesia, with coffee production expected to rise from 2.8 million bags to 10.9 million bags. Although last year's coffee crops were affected by heavy rainfall during the growing period, resulting in suboptimal pollination conditions, the southern part of Sumatra and the lowland areas of Java were unaffected. Favorable weather conditions contributed to an increase in Robusta coffee production from 2.7 million bags to 9.5 million bags, with exports also rising to 6.5 million bags.
