Recently, Papua New Guinea in Oceania has been hit by a series of disasters, suffering severe losses. According to media reports, a major landslide occurred on the 24th in the Mulitaka area of Enga Province in northern Papua New Guinea, burying more than 2,000 people, with the death toll already exceeding 670.

Excessive rainfall caused the soil to become loose, ultimately leading to this serious landslide accident. According to statistics, the village where the incident occurred has a total of 3,895 residents, and the affected area of the landslide is equivalent to 3 to 4 football fields. Moreover, because the landslide happened in the early hours of the morning and was relatively sudden, it resulted in severe damage.

In addition, this disaster also affected the coffee-growing regions of Papua New Guinea. The landslide occurred in Mount Hagen, Enga Province, which is close to the Western Highlands Province, the main coffee-producing area of Papua New Guinea. In this coffee region, coffee is primarily grown in the Wahgi Valley of Mount Hagen (Mount Hagen).

Therefore, to avoid and prevent the persistence of heavy rain, further deterioration of the disaster, and the recurrence of landslides, the local government is organizing the emergency evacuation of approximately 7,900 people from nearby areas and regions.

Currently, it is the harvesting period for coffee in Papua New Guinea. After the evacuation of personnel in the region, the coffee cherries on the estates will be left unharvested, ultimately affecting the coffee harvest in the area and leading to reduced production.
