Within the coffee belt, the Americas region is home to many well-known coffee-producing countries, such as Panama, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Guatemala. Among them, Costa Rica is renowned as the first country in Central America to cultivate coffee and bananas for commercial value.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is one of the countries with the richest biodiversity in the world, home to nearly 5% of the world's species. Nearly 30% of the country's land area is designated as national parks or nature reserves, and the national forest coverage rate reaches 52.38%. The climate is tropical and subtropical, and the country has over 200 volcanoes. Volcanic ash enriches the soil with abundant minerals, and with mild and suitable temperatures and abundant rainfall, the country has developed agriculture and is a major global exporter of pineapples, bananas, and coffee.

Western Valley (Valle Central Occidental): The Western Valley is located on the moderately sloped terrain of the Central Mountain Range, with plantations at elevations between 1000m and 1200m. It accounts for 25% of the country’s total coffee production. There are two volcanoes on the eastern and western sides respectively, contributing to fertile volcanic soils. Being close to the coastline and influenced by Pacific air currents, the region enjoys a pleasant climate with an average annual humidity as high as 81% and abundant rainfall. However, the wet and dry seasons are distinctly separated, with plenty of sunshine during the dry season. This region is also home to a well-known estate: Volcan Azul.

Blue Volcano Estate has also been actively involved in the COE competition, frequently appearing on the rankings, and even won first place in the Costa Rica COE in 2013.  The estate is located on the slopes of the famous Poás Volcán (Poás Volcano) in the Alajuela region of Costa Rica’s Western Valley (West Valley), at an altitude of 1650–1700 meters.

The owners of this estate are very committed to protecting natural resources. Since the 1980s, they have been dedicated to conserving large areas of tropical rainforest in Costa Rica. To date, they have acquired over 1,500 hectares of tropical rainforest for coffee cultivation and regional environmental protection.
