Panama is close to the equator and has a tropical maritime climate, with humid days and cool nights. The average annual temperature ranges between 23°C and 27°C, and the average annual rainfall is 1,500–2,500 mm, mainly divided into dry and rainy seasons. Due to its geographical environment, Panama features complex and varied microclimates. Coupled with fertile volcanic soil, these conditions provide perfect cultivation environments for coffee growth. Moreover, the Panama Canal within its borders connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans and is an important shipping route, hailed as the “Bridge of the World,” one of the seven engineering wonders of the world.
Among them, the Boquete region is the most famous because it is home to many renowned Geisha coffee farms, including Hacienda La Esmeralda, Finca Elida, and Finca Duncan, among others.
Although the Volcán region is not as well-known as Boquete, it also has excellent geographical advantages. As seen on the map, the Volcán region is located to the east of the Barú Volcano. Unlike the Boquete region, it has a northern mountain barrier that prevents Atlantic moisture from reaching the area, making it relatively drier. However, the region enjoys abundant sunshine, occasional cloud cover, and fertile volcanic ash soil, with slopes situated at altitudes between 1200-1900 meters, providing extremely favorable natural conditions for coffee cultivation.

In recent years, coffee from the Volcán region has gradually gained recognition in the specialty coffee market, with farms such as 90+ Gesha Estate, Hartmann Estate, and Finca Deborah among the notable ones.
Deborah Estate is located on the slopes of the Barú Volcano in the Volcán region, with all plantings situated at elevations above 1900 meters, making it one of the highest-altitude farms in all of Panama. Such high elevation provides natural protection for the coffee trees, reducing the threat of diseases and pests, and the farm owner, Jamison Savage, does not use pesticides or herbicides, actively maintaining a natural growing environment.
Deborah Estate was founded by Jamison Savage, who was originally an American and a banker. He later married his current Panamanian wife and moved to Panama to live. He began planning the construction of Deborah Estate in 2007, planted the first batch of Gesha coffee trees in 2010, and officially entered commercial harvest mode in 2016. Jamison was also one of the first developers of carbonic maceration and anaerobic processing methods. Drawing inspiration from the wine industry, he incorporates different coffee varieties, terroirs, and advanced fermentation techniques to create unique flavor profiles tailored to each coffee bean.
